I was looking at the blog and realised that I have not done much blogging the last couple of weekends, so thought I'd finally post my bank holiday exploits.
2010 is the year of Gaz's 30th birthday so that means a slightly better present than usual. To be honest, it didn't take much thinking to pull it out the bag. He likes motorsports and regularly goes to Knockhill so it was a bit of a no-brainer. I was going to purchase a driving experience voucher for him to drive about like a lunatic on the Knockhill tarmac. It sounds a great present but there is one little problem - the Scottish climate. Can you really imagine what the surface would be like at the end of Autumn when it is his birthday? On the back of this I just decided to give him the voucher early to enjoy it during the better months.
He decided to cash the voucher in on the second May bank holiday. The day was set. My last day of a holiday and I was summoned at the crack of dawn. We headed off in the morning sunshine, Knockhill bound hoping there would be no cars getting flipped today.
Once we got there, it was time to park up and head into the reception. One driver briefing, bacon roll and visit to the helmet store later and we were ready to rock'n'roll.
After a few laps in the Seat practice car to get used to the track, it was time for Gaz to get behind the wheel of an open wheeled racing car. I have to admit that when I bought the ticket, I just kinda assumed that it would be a solo session. On the day it turned out there was 23 drivers all in. From a spectators point of view it was better as it meant there were always cars passing and the pit lane had a good bit of hustle and bustle.
After the first car, it was time to go old school. The Legends mini muscle cars were the ones Gaz was looking forward to. I'm glad these were last up as it meant he was getting a chance to drive these after getting a feel for the speed and the track.
